How do I connect the converter box to an analog VCR and then to a HDTV?
Ron C asked:
After connecting the converter box to my analog VCR and then the VCR to my HDTV the stations come in fine while using VCR mode. However, when I turn off the VCR and go to watch my HDTV I can’t get a signal. I have to attach the antenna lead directly to the TV to be able to watch it. How do I connect everything up and still be able to watch HDTV without having to connect and disconnect the antenna lead each time? Also how would I record a program on the VCR and watch another program on the HDTV?

you cannot get digital signals (HD) from an analog source. get rid of the VCR it obsolete anyway. buy a digital video recorder to record and watch programs.
In the off state, the VCR can’t pass through the digital antenna signal to your HDTV.
You need to split the downlead from your antenna. Connect one to the converter box, the other to your TV.
I would use any non-RF output from your VCR to your TV, mostly because the video quality is much better via composite than coax.
Use the TV to switch between your digital tuner and VCR.
I had to make some assumptions since you didn’t give model numbers, but in general:
You need to put a splitter on your antenna lead and run separate coax cable to the converter box input and HDTV’s antenna input.
Connect the output of your converter to the VCR’s input (preferably using composite cables). Connect the composite outputs of the VCR to the composite inputs of the HDTV.
None of the converter boxes will pass through any signals when they are on. You have to split the incoming antenna signal to watch one channel while recording another.
