Panasonic TH-50PZ85U Plasma HDTV Video Tour
brothersontech asked:
This is a tour of the Panasonic TH-50PZ85U plasma TV. This is a new 2008 model.

It does give off heat like plasmas do, but it doesn’t really bother me.
does the Tv give off much heat?
LCDs are generally better with regard to glare and bright rooms. However, when it gets dark, the flaws of LCDs become very apparent with relatively poor black levels and potentially uneven backlighting. I don’t have great issues with reflections as they have improved the antireflective surfaces over the years as well as the brightness of plasmas. Go to a store and look at them from angles. There are lots of bright lights in there which could give you some idea of reflections.
Hi ,I’m interested in buying this tv but i’m very concerned about glare and reflection issues as my living room is big and has a lot of double windows.Could you please let me know how the tv performs in bright light environment.
Thanks
I have this Panasonic HDTV and it has a Fantastic picture. I also play my Xbox 360 games on it. A Plasma display is a great display to game on. The picture is amazing. Once you go Plasma, you’ll never want to go back to a LCD display.
somebody please guide me i dont know which tv to buy im stuck between panasonic
TH-46PZ82B or SONY V4000 im not sure which to buy
I posted a video of Halo 3 in our video channel. Quality really sucks so it probably wont help much.
So how are the Wii Vids’ coming along? Anyways, I actually checked out the PN50A550 yesterday as well as the 85U….All i can say is the Sammy had better color, while the Panny had the slight edge on blacks. And i’ve been hearing about the green ghosting that happens while playing videogames on the 85U, don’t know if that’s a problem for some of them or all.But ya, the 800U is the king of plasmas right now(besides pioneer) but they’re pretty expensive.
Oh and I know 1080p is a waste at 42″ but because it has that native resolution, i guess that’s why i’m going for it instead of the Sammy. Damn is it difficult buying an HDTV these days
and i also just found out the 42PZ85U is $1,799 compared to the $1499 sammy plasma…and then there’s the PZ8OU which appears to have a lower contrast ratio and a not so nice looking design compared to the PZ85U, but it’s 1,499…damn. I think I’m really just going to save a bit and go for the PZ85U, and it’s funny, i planned on spending a little over a grand in the beginning, and it looks like now I’ll be spending $2000
I plan on keeping this display for maybe around 2-3 years, then i want to upgrade. I actually wanted to get a 720p display, and then upgrade to 1080p display once the Next gen systems hit in around 3 years. The funny this, if these 720p displays werent fixed and were native 1280×720, i wouldn’t think of going 1080p, But that’s not the case.
From the research that I have done, the frame rate issue seems to be more game-related than tv-related. Almost all games are rendered at lower resolutions still (ex. 1280×1080 or 1280×720) so a lot of scaling is being done by the 360/ps3 or you TV. Choosing to be a 1080p Set is future-proofing. I dont want to have a set that cannnot handle things down the road. I think you would be making a wise choice going with the Panny, not just for the 1080p but because they make very high quality plasmas.
Also, I’ve been hearing how the Samsung PN50A450 has great color, but the blacks could be better, and the displays seems to have IR problems and so on. So now i’m actually really considering getting the TH-42PZ85U
I’ve heard a few people on random message boards saying that the 360 can only output 1080p at up to 30(instead of 60) frames per second, overall giving certain games an inferior frame rate…But it does sound a bit bogus I guess. But some other people are saying that it’s not true and that it looks better and plays perfectly at 1080p since it’s a supported resolution and not fixed.
where are you getting the info about the framerate issues on the 1080p sets?? I have played lots of FPS on both LCD 1080p and Plasma 1080p sets. I have never really noticed a framerate problem with either and I can usually spot stuff like that. We’ll try to have those vids up by tomm.
Awesome, sounds good
As for 1080p, i’m sort of considering it..I mean what turns me off about 1365×768 is that it’s a fixed resolution, but what turns me off about 1080p(besides the higher price tag) is that people have been saying the 360/PS3 take a hit framerate wise when displayed at 1080p due to the limmited power of their graphic cards(whatever) And i’m a frame rate whore, so if really does take a hit, than it’s a no for me.
I checked it out… don’t worry its 1365×768. I still recommend a 1080p, but it’s ultimately your decision. My brother owns the Panasonic TH-50PZ700u. He has a Wii and 360 and can post some vids of some games on his set. Will be a day or 2 before he can get them posted though.
I’m also set on getting the Samsung PN50A450, but for some odd reason the resolution is 1024×768 on Samsungs website…Yet on every other website it’s listed as 1365×768. I mean it has to be the higher res, i mean what 50″ plasma has a res of 1024×768? because if that’s the case i’m not buying.
Anyways, you know what would be awesome, if you posted up a video trying ouy the 360 and Wii on your Plasma.
Ok, i’ve stumbled across some other issues.
The obvious high points of a Plasma
+Superior Color
+CRT-like Response time
+Better Blacks
Now I can get over Screen Glare, as I’m used to it with My CRT, but i’ve been hearing about picture dithering, video noise and 360/PS3 games not looking as crisp or clear compared to an LCD. Is this true?
im gettin this in 42 inches or may be the sony 40w4000 which one’s better?
If you are going 50 inches, be sure to go 1080p. You might look at the Panasonic TH-50PZ80U to save a few dollars if you don’t need a PC input or can use HDMI from your PC.
Awesome, I thaught so. Well, i’ve narrowed it down to 2 models, well 3 actually….But since the PN42A450 Plasma has a lower Res 0f 1024×768 I’d be be losing 256 Pixels, ugh. But as for the other 2 >
~Samsung PN50A450 50″ 720p Plasma
~Panasonic TH-42PZ85U 42″ 1080p Plasma
the 50″ sammy has the 1366×768, although i didn’t plan on going that large, but I can make the space.
I really don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Response time is just not really an issue. You can kinda think of a plasma as a big thick CRT. A plasma display is the closest thing to a CRT in the world of currently available flat panel technologies.
I see what you’re saying, And your display must have an excellent scaler then. Anyways, I’m probably going to get the Model you have, but at 42″ Also, i’m just so used to my Sony 32″ Wega Trinitron CRT SDTV, hopefully this plasma can match it PQ wise…Anyways, what’s the response time for your display? or any new typical plasma for that matter, I know CRTs are the greatest when it comes to this, they’re 0ms right?
