Steve Martin, Bela Fleck, Tony Trischka Banjo HDTV The Crow
gbtexas asked:
Triple banjo on David Letterman 4/26/07. The song is called “the Crow” and is written by Steve Martin. It can be found on Tony Trischka’s new double banjo album.

C’mon, TenaciousxT; not very original. It’s been said so many times by so many people. It’s kind of like how rappers rip off other people’s work because they have nothing original to contribute. I’ll make an arguement for you:
Good blues requires creativity and musical talent; most rap has very little to do with creativity or talent.
Good country and blue grass both require creativity and talent.
In this way you are right: blue grass is closer to country than rap is to blues.
I first said that calling “blue grass” the same thing as country is “like” calling rap the same thing as the blues. I didn’t say it was the exact same thing.
We are not talking about things that are exactly quantifiable or qualifiable by using the same exact same epistemologies. That means that you can dispute fine points indefinitely. You haven’t actually made a cogently viable point to really refute me.
Rappers have even used blues in their work by “sampling” blues into rap. Right?
you’re throwing in completely new stuff. RAP IS NOT BLUES. Bluegrass is closer to country than rap is to blues.
SpeedMetal: best of the best
It depends on one’s perspective. Music stores that organize their products by genre often place rap in a section called “R and B”. (Rythm and Blues.) Bluegrass is usually found categorized with country. In each case the types of music may have shared roots, but according to many purists, blue grass is not country. Likewise, rap is not R & B. In this way, calling blue grass “country” is like equating rap to the blues.
it’s nothing like calling rap the blues
lol whats that suppose to mean, Steve martin’s awesome. what dont ya like bout him?
woah. so steve martin does actually have positive aspects.
This is the kind of playing that makes me want to take up the banjo.
punk also only know 3 chords….METAL–the best
You should check out “Toy Dolls Duelling Banjos” and search “Todd Taylor,” if you haven’t already.
I call bluegrass the speed metal of country music.
So great to see Steve Martin playing. and Bela! Good stuff. I saw Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas about a month ago, its nice to see from Brittany that great musicians run in the family.
Yeah, well, it isn’t excactly country; it’s blue grass. What’s the difference? Calling country the same thing as blue grass is like calling rap the same thing as the blues. Try going to a blue grass festival and calling it country.
As for 3 chord corporate musical wonders: country hasn’t cornered that market by a damn site; hell, in pop music today knowing 3 chords would make somebody a virtuoso– knowing a fourth would make ‘em a genius.
Country!?! are you serious? country (in my opinion) is some overpaid corperate musician who knows 3 guitar chords, and then whines through a mike. this is what we like to call music, an instrumental.
Wow, folks; this is what they call country music; my opinion is that steve Martin plays a better banjo than he acts. Good pickin’ on everyone’s part,Bernie
Hmmm… fantastic!
Steve Martin, Tony Trischka, Bela Fleck, Michael Daves, Brittany Haas. Who else is up there?
Fleck is really unbelievable.
I believe it’s Brittany Haas. She’s excellent.
